Why would you think Kilometers? 900 horsepower ;)

These threads always remind me of an old George Carlin line: Have you ever noticed that anybody driving slower than you is an idiot, and anyone going faster than you is a maniac?

Wow. I think its probly Kilometers though.

At this year's shoot-out at Lake Of The Ozarks, the latest record posted is 112 GPS MPH...in a pontoon. Beating last years record of 109 MPH.

Yes, MILES per hour.

Yikes!

HTML:
That is impressive. I wonder how much fuel he is hauling to support all that?

Dunno, looks a lot more stable than most of the drag boats you see.

OK, that's fair. Until you look at it head on, and realize that it's basically a flat wing, going 100+, and any slight pitch up could cause it to tumble like a playing card in a tornado.

Here was his shootout run. 112mph on radar (not gps) just before the buoys. He isn't the only one running 'toons at "ludicrous speed" either; the 100mph barrier was broken a few years ago.

May have gone even faster as there's lots of "debate" about the accuracy of the radar guns. I know when I ran in it in 2010 my gps speed was 4mph faster than the radar registered.

I like how none of those guys was wearing a life vest (especially a high-impact vest) while running a 'toon with a likely-high propensity to catch air @ 100mph. I can appreciate someone doing it for the heck of it, but this video was pretty dangerous. I sure as heck wouldn't have wanted to see what happened if a wake was encountered or a drastic maneuver had to be done. I'll keep the 100+mph runs to the offshore guys.

Maybe, but I guess I've gone faster in dumber vehicles ;)

Not sure if it would have mattered... If it goes over, chances are you aren't going to make it even with a life jacket. The jacket just makes recovery easier.

the video shows the boat being run on table top calm water .... would be hard to imagine what the ride would be like on even a small chop .... the high bow angle and just how deep the rear is in the water at idle would seem to indicate the weight of the motors and probably fuel tank(s) is such that there is a very low portion of the weight up front

I seem to remember Donald Campbell saying "looks pretty calm today - let's go for it"!

No life jacket and you can see his lanyard laying on the floor, this guy is a MORON, if he wants to kill himself and his friends fine but don't send your boat across the lake at 100 mph after you get pitched out.

I would also be very leary of callapsing a tube, they are hollow after all btu that is well beyond anything they were designed for.

That is just crazy going that fast in a toon, in emilsr video you can see the front of that toon get real close to going over, that is certainly something I would watch but never do, 112 in a toon, who would have thought.
