Re: 100% synthetic 2 stroke oil

Hi all

I'm going to move this discussion in a different direction.

I was recently buying oil for my outboard at a Shell gas station. They only had the little containers, no 1 litre bottles. I asked if they were hiding in back, but no apparently they're not available.

The explaination is that Shell is combining their four-stroke and two-stroke marine oils into one retail product.

Has anyone else heard of this, or understand how this could be done. I've always assumed that you couldn't mix the applications this way.

David

Hey Sloopy,

Pour some synthetic oil in a frying pan and turn up the heat...check what happens

Now do the same thing with regular oil and you'll notice it doesn't withstand the heat as well as synthetic.

Simple test, just proves proves that synthetics viscosity is tougher.

Bluefish
Just couious, How were you able to determine it was the Oils fault? Maybe you need an Inline Fuel filter or a better one?

I'm thinkin' about switching to the Pennzoil blend and kinda like Jango. How did you assertain it was the oil's fault the carb stopped up? How long since a carb overhaul?
Just curious.

c/6

Hooty

Well the fuel filter was clean and it does not take much to partway clog a jet I know that. As for the head gaskets their was no overheating and they went with in two weeks of each other, can I say for sure it was the oil no. But the gaskets looked fine not a mark on them did the oil let the engine get a little to hot??? My be just a coincidence or my be its not a good idea to change to a synthetic oil on and older engine I just know for my own peace of mine I switched back..
