Hi guys it's me again, some good news and some bad news here I am afraid, the good news is, I finally got my boat on the water, bad news was it only would get to 36mph and around 3 - 4000RPM, it was shaking a bit, but only shaking when it was mid range throttle and then a bit lower too idle. Some idiot (ME) had not put the spacer behind the prop, what a tool I am! don't agree or I will have to come to America :D. Anyway it looks like I haven't done much damage, it has rubbed on the LU a bit, but all in all I think it will be ok. I will do another test run sometime soon and let you know the results from my change to a 17" from a 21" both s/s. With the 21" before I was getting 45MPH but not sure about the Tacho at 4500RPM. Today was a scare at 36MPH but I think it will now improve with the spacer there .

Set it up right and go for a ride.
Do the 21p and then the 17p
Record all the RPM's/speed and post them.
Get a tiny tach and see if it records the same as your tach.
Lots of people have forgotten the spacer(not me)and have done a lot of damage.
You got lucky and learned a lesson. Bet you won't EVER do that again.

NEVER DO THAT AGAIN! thanks jerryjerry, just waiting to make sure my Tacho is synced properly, as it is an electronic one, I have to put a number into it to set it at the right RPM/poles, it states the number 6 for a 12 pole@6000rpm, so I set it to number 5.5. But I don't think I trust it at the moment, I bought a handheld tacho, but it is hard to sync my on-board tacho to it without a second person (eye sight, old lol). So I am going to play with the settings and tacho's today with hopefully my missus (One who must be obeyed). It may need to be set as a 6 pole I am not sure with this tacho, I have an original Chrysler tacho coming i bought cheap from a bloke who's motor is wrecked.
I will also now use my iphone for speed, but I also have a gps coming too. I love the toys.

Stupid 17" still needed another washer, so I canned it anyway and went back to the 21". I was wondering why my motor was shaking mid-range after reinstalling the 17" and it was still loose by 2-3mm but didn't seem it untill I had it on the water. I am sure it is to do with the plastic flare behind the cone which I can't install on the 17", it is that amount of space the prop was moving.

The prop is not stupid! If you don't use the flare washer. you MUST use a 3/16 spacer on the end of the prop shaft (with most but not all props) There is a stock spacer that has 1/2 the splines and is used for just this purpose. You can just barely see it under the prop nut and SS washer on this bronze prop.

And all distributor engines have 12 pole alternators.

Why isn't my Tacho right at 12 pole, yet it is closer at 6, stupid tacho and stupid person who put on that 17", I am sticking with my 21".
yes you are right I didn't know I needed another washer to replace the flare. still wasn't happy with it.

I don't understand your reference to setting your tach at 6, 5.5, and 4.5. I have never seen a tach with those type settings so I can't comment.

No problems mate, the tacho came with a chart which has a column for rpm. I will post it now.

Ok got my speed via pitot speedo to 40MPH that's a 4 MPH improvement from the 17" and it hole shots fine. Mind you I put my hydrfoil back on too and lowered the motor back to level with the keel.
