I have a 1979 100 hp evinrude that had been running pretty good. I went out the other morning ran a wot for approx. ten minutes and every once in a while the engine seemed to rev. just a little higher for maybe half of a second or so. I started to come home after my day fishing and I could not achieve full throttle even though the control was all the forward? The engine is starting and idling just fine. I pull the boat out a checked all linkages an all are fine. Ran it with flush kit and it achieved full throttle no problem but no load on engine? Any body experience similar problem? problem?

Re: 100hp.outboard no top end power

New to board, but had your experience on my 1979 85 HP Johnson. I assume by full throttle you mean full rpm. I was running 4600 rpm out one day, and on way in could only achieve 3300 rpm. To my surprise, I had lost a power pack and was running on two cylinders. I didn't think the engine would work that well on two cylinders, but it did. When at dock, I could achieve rpm, but my idle was down slightly from usual. I noticed two cylinders were cold, pulled spark plugs to check spark, and only had two firing. Replaced power pack and problem was solved. Now I keep a spare on board.
