Re: 11' Runabout build

this thread is going to cost me money in the long run too...

I want to build one of the "Florida Flats Flyer" boats so bad I can taste it...

Actually, it is a toss up between a 12" version of your boat or the Flyer...

Maybe both in the long run.... Might be smart to start with a nice small boat...

Love the progress!!

Azonic, go for it I have been having a blast tackling this project. It has all been pretty easy with just standard wood working tools and no real wood working experience except a few small shelves and what nots

I have gotten the keel lams done and applied a fillet to make the bilge area flat

Re: 11' Runabout build

First off I hope everyone had a great Christmas.

After taking a LOOONNNG break and procrastinating for awhile I finally got out in the garage today and did a little work on the boat.

I cut the hull laminations and radiused the ends and bedded two of them down

it was pretty chilly in the garage you can see my heater running in the back ground

next I started laying out the longitudinal members (basically stringers) on a peice of 1/8 fiberboard as a template

when I finished that up I started marking the motorboard to cut it to fit between the sheers and over the lams

and a picture of a Christmas present from the wife lithium ion 18v drill and impact driver they are awesome

Very nice work so far... I'm impressed. Some day I might try to build a boat again (I gave up on my first attempt, too many projects going on) and something like this might be a good start for me... I have a hamilton jet drive I could use :)

Keep at it and keep us updated... I can't wait to see this thing run on the water.

Re: 11' Runabout build

I finally got a little more work done, I have been really lazy working on the boat. I need to get motivated on this so I can get it done for boating season.

Here is the progress I got the next 2 lams bedded in
S6300349.jpg

I cut the 1/4" longitudinal member cut out of ply it is backed by 1 1/2" members overlapped 6" on each end.
S6300347.jpg

I cut some spacers to keep the right distance got them screwed in place. the first (closest) section is the sole or deck. The second level is the seating area and the third will be under the splash well
S6300348.jpg

Here it is temporarily set atop the lams looks pretty good.
S6300350.jpg

I took it back out and started filleting the lams

still got a little more filleting to do tomorrow and lots of sanding

Re: 11' Runabout build

Wow has it been cold around here it is hard to get anything done with it so cold. I did a little sanding done. The motorboard has been cut to fit over the lams and keel and also got the transom board filleted
S6300353.jpg

I also tabbed the transom to the sides with a 3" strip of the 1300 biax
S6300354.jpg

Then I coated the transom and motorboard with epoxy let it tack up then used thickened epoxy to glue in the motor board
S6300355.jpg

I clamped the motorboard in and screwed it with 1 1/2" screws and filleted around it I didnt take any pic of the motorboard in so I'll get that next post

I have to tab the motor board in and still have alot of sanding to do I only got about a quarter of it done. I really don't like sanding epoxy!!!!!
