Re: 110 evinrude water circulation
Okay, you say you just installed a new waterpump kit. I did the same on my 90hp Johnson (same lower unit & pump) two years ago and it nearly melted down first time out. Mine, too, would pump like normal at low speed and idle. BUT, as soon as I would plane off and the water pulled away from the transom, I would lose the telltale and no water out the reliefs. Took me a good week of head scratching before my local mech asked me how I had assembled the pump housing. Apparently, if you are a bit too generous with the sealing goo when installing the thin o-ring that goes between the top of the SST cup and the plastic pump housing you can plug off a tiny vent hole. I pulled it all apart and sure enough, I had globbed the sealant in there just enough that it had plugged up the little channel in the housing. This vent is required so that the pump holds its prime. I cleaned it up, reassembled it and haven't had any more issues with it since...
To further clarify - the vent channel is about a 1/4-inch long, running horizontally under the top of the plastic housing. It goes right through and is perpendicular to the channel that the thin o-ring seal seats in. It has to be open and even is mentioned in the OEM service manual. Being that I have done hundreds of waterpumps over the years, I never once thought to actually read the manual, but I learned that lesson the hard way...
