I HAVE A 1989 110 JOHNSON V4 VRO. i BOUGHT IT IN JANUARY. THE BOAT/MOTOR IS IMMACULATE.I STARTED HAVING PROBLEMS EARLY ON . WHEN I GO TO FULL THROTTLE , IT BOGS DOWN TOTALLY. IT IDLES FINE. IN NEUTRAL AS WELL.I CAN REV IT UP TOO.BUTUNDERLOAD IT BOGS DOWN . THIS SEEMS TO HAPPEN STRANGLY ENOUGH I NOTICED WHEN I HAVE 1/2 TANK OR LESS OF FUEL.THIS MAY NOT HAVE ANYTHING TO DO WITH THE PROBLEM , BUT I AM THINKING FUEL PUMP . I HAVE CHANGED OUT ALL THE COMPONENTS BETWEEN THE TANK AND MOTOR . I TOOK THE TANK OFF AND CLEANED IT AS WELL . I INSTALLED A FUEL SEPARATOR TOO. WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK? TANKS IN ADVANCE...............................sKIP

Re: 110 JOHNSON FUEL PUMP?

keepiton2, You might have a fuel tank pickup problem. The pickup might be crackedhalfway down, or partially plugged up. Does the motor smoke more now then it did when you first bought the boat?? did you try squeezing the primer bulb when you were running? did that fix the problem? It just could be that the VRO pump is bad. If the pump is bad adn you want to disconnect the oil injection part of it, you can buy a VRO pump w/out the oil inj. side. about 100 bucks cheaper.. FYI

good luck

SP

DOES THAT MEAN I WILL HAVE TO MIX THE OIL/GAS MYSELF THEN ?

Re: 110 JOHNSON FUEL PUMP?

AND YES I CHANGED THE PICK UP TUBE AND ALL THE HOSES UP TO THE ENGINE . I CLEANED THE TANK AND INSTALLED A NEW PRIMER BULB . I HAVE CHANGED OUT EVERYTHING UP TO THE ENGINE.THE BULB IS WEAK WHEN THE PROBLEM STARTS .IT IS BARELY HARD.IT PICKS UP SOMEWHAT WHEN I SQUEEZE IT . I DONT ANT TO HAVE TO MIX OIL EVERYTIME I GO OUT , SO I THINK I WILL STICK WITH THE VRO SYSTEM. ANY IDEAS SP ? TANKS AGAIN.......................SKIP

Check the fuel pressure, 3 pounds at idle, should not drop as rpms increase. Check pulse hose from block to pump clamps. I dont think the bulb will remain firm when engine is running, fuel is being sucked out of the bulb. If fuel problem engine should run fine , when you pump primer bulb, may have other problems.

Re: 110 JOHNSON FUEL PUMP?

I have a 94 112 Johnson that had the same problems that you are describing. In my situation, it was the anti-siphon valves. When you replaced everything from the motor to the tanks, did you replace/check the anti-siphon valve(s)? You can easily test this by using an external tank connected to your motor. If the problem goes away with the external tank attached your problem is probably the valve. I would either remove or replace the anti-siphon valve.

Try running on an auxillary tank. If the problem stays I would clean and rebuild carbs. If it remains work your way from the connection back. It could be sucking air at the quick connect.

Re: 110 JOHNSON FUEL PUMP?

I ALREADY CHANGED ALL THE HOSES FROM THE TANK OUT TO THE MOTOR.SO NOBODY BELIEVES IT COULD BE THE VRO PUMP? IT SEEMS TO BE ORIGINAL (1989) . IT JUST CONFUSES ME BECAUSE IT RUNS WELL FOR AN HOUR OR TWO , THEN BEGINS TO DIE ON ACCELERATION .THAT'S WHY IT SEEMS CONFUSING TO ME.WHEN IT GETS HOT IT RUNS POOR. DO I COMPLETELY TEAR DOWN THE CARBS ? (4) OR SHOULD I TRY SOME CLEANER 1ST ? I ALREADY PUT IN SOME 2-4 WHEN THE PROBLEM 1ST OCCURRED. LET ME KNOW GUYS , TANKS AGAIN !!..............SKIP

Go back and read what clanton said. Check fuel pressure with gauge.

c/6

Hooty
