Re: 113 mpg sport car

When I saw the "beautiful car" statement I just had to look. I thought it would be some weenie-looking nerdmobile. That IS a nice looking car! And I like diesel engines, too. I wish they'd hurry up and start selling a nice little small-sized truck in the U.S. with a not-so-thirsty diesel engine. When I was in high school, my dad and brother-in-law were looking for an ISUZU 4X4 diesel pickup but couldn't find one so my brother-in-law bought an '86 isuzu p'up 4x4. I later bought it from him with 86,000 miles. It still got 30mpg. No AC but did have power steering. Best vehicle I ever owned. Drove it over 100,000 with only a 20dollar rebuilt starter and a set of brake pads and then sold it for 1700.00 running like the day I bought it. I paid 2500 for it. Why did they stop making or selling the little diesel pu's???? Were they too darned good on gas ????
Overseas they have ford ranger p.u. diesels--extended cabs, too. But not over here.. I hear it has to do with the cleaner diesel they have overseas. Aren't nearly all the cars Europeans drive diesel like Mercedes and such?
ANyway,
I liked the 100mpg car, too!:)

Mostly emissions vs/plus power issues. Plenty of torque just didn't get there very fast in comparison.
The "legendary" Mercedes 300D would literally last a million miles. Because it was a slug.:D

It says it has a top speed of 155, but what are it's 0-60 numbers? 0-100? Making a car pretty with a high top speed doesn't make it a sports car.

What a great looking car! Price it with tha Miata, and you couldn't make them fast enough.

Even with a low drag coefficient, you would still need a pretty good power to weight ratio to go that fast. I am sure the acceleration would be more than satisfactory.

You would be amazed how drastically some of those numbers would change after the emissions and safety equipment were put on to satisfy the NTSB and EPA for use in the US. I do like the car though.

Nice car. Now if only they would make something that got that mileage that I could afford.

JBJ, i also had an Izuzu Diesel, was a fantastic car. cruised at 75 all day long. it's demise was when it was stolen. creep put gas in it. lasted 5 miles, and died on the interstate, the cop stopped to help, guess who went to jail.

It always beat the hell out of me when i see that GM can build and produce these types of cars in/for foreign markets, whilst neglecting their home based market. :(
