Tearing down a 1981 115 Evinrude planning a complete rebuild i have 2 questions one about a head and the second about a broke piece below the exhaust plate..

So first the head the motor broke a ring and it bouced around and knicked the head a few times this is not on the gasket surface for the head gasket but inside of it can i reuse it ?? if no, why not

Second this piece was broke when my brother was trying to help me get the powerhead off he used a pry bar at the back (i was working the front) i know i know never turn you back but is there a way that i can build this area up so i can make it seal to the base gasket ??

The attached picture is shows the area that has broken on the base of the engine. This will be a difficult repair. You need to take it to a machine shop. They will have to weld in a new (replacement) rib. Then machine it flat with the block bottom and then machine it flat with the exhaust back. They will then have to drill and tap the hole for the long bolt. During the repair, you may need to retap a couple of the exhaust bolt holes on that same rib. You may find other exhaust bolts will break off during disassembly. They will have to be drilled and tapped out. With all the expense, you may want to locate a replacement block. Some folks grind the pitting on the head and reuse it. Personally, I would not reuse the head. The raised edge of each little pit can cause a hot spot when the engine gets up to operating temps, which can cause detonation. A factory rep would say to pitch it in the garbage. Those are the low compression heads for 81. You can find replacement heads from a 140 from that year an improve the performance.

souns like alot of money either way couldn't i build up the area with epoxy or jb weld so it will seal around the base gasket and just leave the one mounting bolt out it will have 11 others holding it on...

I go with EMD... You need solid metal under there. There are no gas stations or repair shops you can pull in to out there on the pond. These motors are high performance precision pieces of machinery. Have it reworked professionally or find a replacement block.

That area is in direct contact with exhaust heat and will be gone in short order if you try to goop it up with JB Weld or the like. Do it right or find another block...
