I bought a 115 Merc (2005) last week. Everything appears to be fine except there is a slight grinding noise when I shift to reverse. The noise is quite small, but I thought I'd better check to see if anyone thought it to be a point of concern.

In advance, Thanks for your help,
Patt

Do not shift slow enough for it to grind.

Shift swiftly past the engagement point then ease into the throttle.

Repeated slow grinding shifts will create an issue where as the grinding heard during slow grinding shifts is normal because of shifting to slow. (babbletalk)

Yep, make sure you shift quickly. The dog gears in an outboard are not synchronized like a cars transition. Putting in gear quickly is the best way to make sure you'll get a long life out of her, also change the lower until lub once a year.
