Where are the ID plate with the serial numbers located??

Does this engine run on two cylinders at low speed and all 4 on hi speed????

What happenes if the oil tank stops mixing oil with the gas.

How hard is it to change the water pump??

Bill...sounds like you could use a manual.

Serial number is on a plate on the swivel bracket

Yes runs on 2 up to approx 1500-1800 RPM then the other 2 kick in

Not good trying to run on straight gas, probaly seize

Water pump isin't too hard if your handy with tools but best to get the manual and follow it along.

Re: 115 Hp merc 4 cyl questions

Is there a second place to find the serial number, I do not see a plate in the swivel bracket anywhere.

if only two plugs fire below 1500 rpm in which I guess is an effort to conserve gas don't we still have a fuel air mix going into the non firing cylinders and compression building up as well????? How does that save anything except to put a strain on the firing cylinders?

Re: 115 Hp merc 4 cyl questions

Serial number sticker should be down on the starboard side of the swivel bracket but if missing the serial should also be down on the lower starboard side of the engine block.

Actually all 4 plugs are firing all the time but for those 2 cylinders the carbs don't really have a low speed jet, the carb is designed to allow just enough fuel through for lubrication purposes but there is no appreciable power generated on those 2 until fuel goes through the high speed jets.

Re: 115 Hp merc 4 cyl questions

The only numbers I can find on the engine are 44330-04 and that number is on the right side of the block and stamped vertically and the last part of the number is behind something but it looks like a 4

On the freeze plug at the bottom of the motor and very hard to see and read is this number, OG347300, I think I have it correct I was reading it with a mirror

Can you tell me anything about the year from these numbers?

Not to get technical but maybe he said the boat was 1999 and you just assumed the motor was as well? Did you check the HIN on the boat transom usually on the right (starboard) side, last 2 digits are the model year.

We knew the boat was a 96 but he said the motor was a 99, I am starting to have a bad feeling about the motor.
