115 hp mercury outboard

i just tore my motor apart and have to replace #3 piston,smeared rings .problem is the 5 other pistons have 3 rings the new one from dealer only has 2 rings with hole in exhaust side.does this mean it's the wrong piston it's the same diameter piston and height ordered it with serial #.could someone tell me the year it is serial# is 7003976 thanks alot

All the updated pistons for the inline 6 engines come with 2 rings not 3.<br /><br />The engine should work fine with the new piston.<br /><br />TMD
