I have a 79 115 i6 that I recently replaced the engine block with a 84 block. During breakin the stator died which I am replacing. My question is the stator wires blue/wh red/wh are connected to the lower switch box instead of the top box as the diagram shows. They are in a yellow sleeve which is shown to be at the lower box. Is this correct? V6 diagrams show blue/wh red/wh in a yellow sleeve. Could the stator have come from a v6 and if so would it cause any problems. My replacement stator has no yellow sleeves and I am unsure if it would matter if the blue red wires can be connected to upper or lower switch box as long as the trigger wires in yellow sleeve also attach to same box as y sleeved stator wires. Thanks for any input. Also this boat will be in saltwater primarily and after thoroughly flushing engine with water and "saltaway" would final minutes of flushing w/green antifreeze and water help coat the coolant passages and help with corrosion buildup? My old block rotted in the coolant passages after sitting for a couple years requiring block replacement. Thanks sollywopp

I'm pretty sure the ones with the white stripe go to the lower box and typicly have the yellow sleeve. You can't transpose the trigger wires.

-W

Those wires are from the high + low speed coils that furnish power to the system and really don't matter which box there hooked to as they simply furnish power to run the system and do not have to be timed, the same goes for the stator it can be installed any position as long as the wires reach the boxes.

Thanks, I will be running again today. Any thoughts on the green antifreeze rinse? I am a GM tech and think since antifreeze doesn't evaporate it might be good to help prevent corrosion from forming not to mention lubing impeller and seals.

I don't think anyone would recommend antifreeze for flushing outboards.

Better would be something designed for the purpose, such as Salt-Away. Does a great job flushing after a salt-run. Available at most marine stores.

http://www.boatersworld.com/brand/Salt-Away Products.htm

Here's a similar product available from this site:

http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cg...=278588491&**********=372274377&view_id=21160

HTH.........ed

Any reason that gr antifreeze would not be benificial to the internal aluminum coolant passages. I think a coating on the walls would help keep oxygen off therefore helping to prevent corrosion from forming. One other question I have is the plug wires. I see that the core is solid stranded wire instead of resistor wire as autos use. Will the resistance in the wire cause lower spark levels and maybe cause the coils to overheat? Thanks sollywopp
