Harve, if it's black and heavy, it's probably coming from the exhuast cavity. Not all the oil burns during the combustion process and eventually ends up on the floor of the garage.<br /><br />On the other hand, have you checked the lower unit lube for water? If your laying it up for old man winter, this is something that needs done. Check the lower unit for water and refill with fresh lube.
