My Tilt/trim came on by itself.

I came home from work yesterday and it was trying to let itself down. I had to disconnect the battery to get it shut off.

It was raining, and when I pushed "up", it shut off while I was holding it in, when I let go it came back on and tried to go down. Any Ideas on where to start?

Re: 115 Johnson tilt/trim

Be sure that the trim switches are not stuck in the down position. The one on the shift handle is more likely than the one on the engine cover. You can test each by unplugging each switch from it's wiring harness. You may need a new switch. If they are both unplugged and the motor is still trimming down, then look at the down relay. Remove the relay box cover and switch the two relays. If the problem goes to "up" then replace them. (I would always replace relays in pairs.) Always possible you have water in the switch-completing the circuit. These checks should get you started.
