Re: 115 Merc Outboard Not Getting Spark

What year 115. Are you sure it is spark you are having a problrm with. The carbs could be flooding over causing the plugs to foul out. pull the plugs after cranking . Are the soaking wet. The first thing I check for a no spark would be the stop cicuit(possible bad key or saftey lanyard switch). There are also mercury filled swithches that are connected to the stop ciruit that fail. also see if it has a shift switch and that the adjustment is correct. The easiest way to find out if it is in the diconnect the Black/yellow wire from the switch box on the motor. That takes the circuit totally out of the picture. Just remember that if the motor starts that it will have to ground out that post that it came off of to get the motor to stop. Use a jumper wire to ground that you can easily move off and on to that post. All the stop circuit does is ground the switch box out. start with that. Remeber if the boat has sat for a while it is probably fuel relatedmake sure fuel is evevn getting through the carbs and the pump is working. Will it run just after you pump the primer bulb and then die. If it will keep running whill you pump the primer bulb you have a bad fuel pump. There are a ton of other things that can go wrong. Start with the easiest stuff and go from there.
