I have a 93 115 Yammy 2 stroke. It runs well up onto the plane (21' seafarer glass half cab cruise) and when on the plane runs well also. Pull it straight back to idle and it often stalls. Pull it back slowly and it starts to miss ad idle every few seconds and then will stall from there. Seems to re-start reasonably easily but need fast idle lever raised to do so.

Any thoughts - too lean (sounds like a sneeze although its hard for me to tell) or crap in float bowls/elsewhere. Whats involved in cleaning carbs. Much appreciated.

Cheers from OZ

Re: 115 missing at idle - lean/crap in carby?

I have an 88 Yahama 90. I just went through my carbs. There's not much to them at all. If possible take each carb completely apart and soak each one in some carb solvent. Again you won't believe how easy these carbs come apart. Make sure you get the correct Kit from your local Yamaha dealer. Mine gave me the wrong one and it was Saturday afternoon when I discovered this, and yes I had my carbs torn apart. Once you soak each one for a couple of hours use some compressed air blowing each passage out real good. Then reassemble. You can get the Idle Mixture setting and Float setting from your local dealer as well. My idle mixture setting were 1 1/2 turns out. Out to Richen and in to Lean. On my float, once I set the Needle into the Seat there was no adjustment needed. I hope this helps you out. :)

Scottoz,

I have a 115hp Suzuki (1995) and it was doing the same thing. Really frustrating! The mechanic says that is a bad carb, (it's popping according to him) and need replaced. The bad news according to him that a replacement carb (Mikuni) for that engine is no longer made. I just posted a request today to see what response I get. Keep an eye on my post.
