Hi All,

Tried several searchs and couldn't find specifically what I am looking for. I currently have a 1995 90 hp Mercury 2 Stroke and while it runs okay, low speed trolling is not its strongest point and it is very noisy (no space for a kicker).

I have the opportunity to get a brand new 2010 115 Optimax two stroke. Everyone speaks so highly about the improvements the new 2 strokes are, will this motor troll for longer distances with out loading up and being too noisy or should I save and get the 4 stroke.

Your opinion is appreciated,

Thanks Rob

A general comment on the noise level and ability to idle smoothly for trolling of a new 115hp 2 stroke optimax vs a 115hp 4 stroke merc.

Thanks! Rob

While they are both great motors, the 4 stroke will not load up as there is no oil being burned. Not sure because I am not a mechanic but long periods at idle could be hard on the cams turning so slow...Again not sure about that piece. I have a 115 4 stroke fuel injected motor and love it...very fuel efficient however the new Optimax do much better then the conventional 2 stroke motors as well. Guess price would be a factor. Good luck on your decision....

Newer DFI's are tuned to be so lean now to meet emission standards, I don't think loading up will be problem. But they are still 2 strokes so they love WOT operation. As far as trolling if you get the digital throttle and shift, it has a trolling option where trolling can be increased in increments.
