Hi Guys I am back again....... A little confussed here, looking for some assistance. I did some searching but most of what I found was no spark issues.

I have a 77 Mercury 115 inline 6.

Compression is fine, 119/119/120/119/120/121

Motor was running fine the other day and then on my way back in to the ramp it started missing pretty bad, not like a fuel issue more like an electrical issue.

I got it home I attemted to start it again, it took along time to crank prior to starting. I attemted it again today and it will not start.

I have fuel and spark. Now when I say I have fuel it pours out the front of the carbs when tilted all the way up. I pulled the plugs and do not see any fuel on them. I have tilted the motor back down to normal drive postion and it still will not start.

I checked the distribitor belt it is intact.

Not sure why it won't start if it has both of these?

Any advise would be appricated.

Troy

Hi,
Try covering the top carb with your hand (i used a rag) so it will pull more gas into engine. My 115 hp did the same thing. Boy was i surprised when it started. Larry

went ahead and took all the carbs off and readjusting everything as it has alway been hard to start and gas always dumps out of all 3 carbs. Will adjust the floats and the mixture and see where I am after that.

Fuel will normally pour out of the carbs if you tilt the motor up. That is why the little tray is in the bottom of the cowl.

Do you have spark? Sometimes those older motors will develop bad spark plug wires, and they will arc to ground. Does the switchbox get +12VDC from the red and white wires on the non-distributor side?

Yes I have spark at all of the plugs while cranking. Yes I have 13 volts on both red and white wires on the non-distributor side while the switch is on.

With the switch off I have 13v only on the red wire.

Awesome!!! After I pulled all the carbs and installed new gaskets and adjusted the floats I now have a hard bulb and no gas pouring out the front of the carbs. Its ALIVE once again! Even on the first try .......now that rocks!!! :)

I will take it out tomorrow on the water and make the carb adjustments. I am still thinking the ideal will need to be bumped up but I can deal with that in the morning.

Thanks for all the input guys! Appricate ya'll!
