I disassembled my '78 1400 today...it does appear that the cylinder walls had some slight rust on them...the cylinder walls are fine but it pretty much ruined the pistons...heres my question...the 1400 pistons has a "half moon" machine cut on the face of the piston and on the porting side of the piston...i have a good set of pistons from a '72 1150, but these pistons do not have that machine cut in the face...can i use the '72 1150 pistons in the 1400..?

Re: 1150/1400 piston question

No as the 140 is power ported, the hole in side of piston is part of the porting as the small angle on piston domeand port cut into block....

Re: 1150/1400 piston question

will any of the "bottom end" parts from the '75 1150 fit in the '78 1400...like the crank, reed blocks etc. ??

Re: 1150/1400 piston question

well, because that 1400 set for a LONG time and it has a lot of light surface rust all over everything inside, the crank has the surface rust right up to and including the camfer at the bearing journals...it is light though and i guess it could be polished, the reed block stops are lightly rusted, though the reed plates look ok, i would not trust any of the bearings up and down the crank, i believe some of the rust got to the wrist pin needles too because from the ones i've inspected so far, there is a lot of play in the wrist pin to piston, obviously i wouldn't re-use those needles but im just drawing you a pic of things...this 1150 bottom end just "looks" in a lot better condition...i wouldn't be afraid to just hang the pistons on the 1150 crank and drop it back in...(just saying)...LOL..! Thanks for the help!
