I have a '87 115etlh that has been sitting during a 4 year boat rebuild. I'm having problems getting over 3600-3900RPMs. The motor just bogs down and if I throttle back it runs great...about 20-25kts. I feel this is a fuel problem and I'm starting there. I rebuilt the carbs 4 years ago and cleaned them out again prior to running last week. I ordered a fuel pump and new hoses for the carbs. I'm going to remove the on motor "fuel filter" and just count on my 10micron external filter.
This is a new fuel system up to the motor...Tank, fuel, hose, filter, primer bulb....Compression numbers 128,126,126,122
So, I pulled the carbs again and looks like my floats are a little off. The manual says .5" from the gasket to the top of the float. Does this look right to you? Seems to be low, but is almost spot on...34/64th's or .531.
One other cause before I look at the ignition system--I don't use the yamaha gauges so I had to wire everything myself. Everything is hooked up correctly, but I didn't use the harness that sends the warning light/level for the oil gauge. I would imagine that this also controls the warning buzzer for the oil system? If it is going off I guess I wouldn't know at this point--I'm going to hook it up. I think it is just the yellow going into the accessory lead on the key switch. If the engine was going into protect mode the RPMS are 2000 and below right?
