More'n likely from the side covers (exhaust manifold, baffle plate, or water jacket cover around the exhaust ports).

Lots of discussion on this, check this thread and use the Forum's search feature for more info:

A bad crankshaft lower seal will also cause water intrusion, but you wouldn't usually see that in #5, only #6. Most likely would be a perforated baffle plate, bad gaskets, or problems with the inner cover.

if i have 125psi on all cylinders, does it still mean there could be a crack on the block on the exhaust side to let water in? or if there were a crack there would be lost of compression?

The crack (if any, and we're not there yet!) would be in the water-containing portions of the block and would have nothing to do with compression readings.

I'd say it's much less common to see a crack in the block than it is to see issues with the inner cover or exhaust baffle. You'll need to pull things apart for inspection to see where the water's spraying from...........ed

You DO have spark on all 6?

NO spark on those two could be a trigger problem.

Before you start taking things apart a simple spark test to verify that it is NOT an ignition problem.

You're absolutely right, I didn't think to ask the obvious question, 'are 5 & 6 actually running?'

Also, are there signs of water on the plugs or are they just "washed" clean?

If no signs of water and those cylinders aren't firing, there certainly could be ign issues.

Couple other things to think about, fuel pump diaphragm leakage flooding the cyl's or issues with the bottom carb, doing the same.

Anyway, more info would help get to the bottom of the problem which May or May Not be water intrusion!............ed

If that motor is 1977, it will be a dissy ignition. Check the lower two plug wires fro arcing and continuity. They are solid stainless steel cored, so zero resistance is correct.

If you pull the exhaust cover, the holes in the baffle or inner cover will be obvious.
