I have a 1990 Evinrude 115 on a 17foot bass boat. Just purchased it from local dealer and they are at a loss. It idles fine, compression is at 115-120 on all cylinders, carbs rebuilt, new power pack, spark plugs, new 17pitch prop, and regulator (Had a charging issue). If you hit the throttle it climbs to 2500rpms and then slowly climbs to 3500rpms where it just tops out. Any ideas? I noticed that it seems to load up at that point with fuel. I can get the boat to plane only on a calm day and then once I get above 3500rpms it runs great.

Re: 115hp has no midrange power

I did some more things to this engine last night. I went to a local outboard recycler and grabbed 2 stators. Found my original stator only had 400ohms on the charge coil. Installed one that had 479ohms and ran good for about all of 3 minutes. Checked the ohms and it dropped to 400ohms. Installed the 2nd stator which had 483ohms and it ran good for all of 5 minutes and it's ohms dropped to 424ohms. Any ideas?

I have had similar type problems with my 1990 115 Johnson. Check all of the plastic hose clamps on the fuel lines and replace the broken ones with real hose clamps. Also, make sure that your hose from the tank to the engine isn't sucking air. You can get a complete fuel line with bulb at Academy or Walmart for about $15.

One other thing to eliminate the fuel tank is to try a separate tank and fuel line. The small plastic tanks are cheap and so are the replacement fuel line with bulb. You can use it later when you de-carb the engine using seafoam.
