I'd guess a lil newer, early 80's.

It could be a '77-'79. Does it have a tell tale on the starboard side of the motor? They started putting tell tales on in '78. What is the serial number?

Look on the stern brackets or a core plug the size of a quarter on the power head for a model #.

Looks like a 1977. Cowling decal design looks a lot like the factory parts diagram. No power trim. If it had trim-the 77 trim was the old-style which mounted outboard of the transom brackets. You can confirm using boobie's i.d. method. Here is a pic of the core plug he refers to. The 77 used a single power pack. The 78 and up used two-for a number of years.

In 77 only the 140 used the new transom bracket/lower mounts. The 115 and 85 were still using the older style.

Good fact. Looks like the 77 and 78 cowlings had strikingly similar side decals. The power pack would be a telling factor.

In the late 70s Johnson was a lot like Mercury, making it had to tell the year by the cowl
