Re: 115HP Mercury, overpropped?
I too have a 115hp Mercury in-line 6 (1974). It's on a 17.5 foot Glassmaster bowrider. There is no power trim and I have to adjust the motor with the transon pin. When the motor is straight up and down (no angle as best as I can tell), I seem to get the best acceleration, but max speed is about 28-29. When the motor is trimmed out three notches, max speed is up to about 36 (with about 600 lbs of people and gear), but is seems that acceleration is not as good.
I'm pretty sure that the prop is a 3-blade 19. Unfortunately, my tach doesn't work and I haven't had a chance to fix it.
Can you relate your experience with the 17 vs. the 19 props?
I am looking for more acceleration (better hole shot). Would I do better with a 4-blade ss prop?
