What is the best way to hook up a 10 amp trickle charger to a 12/24 system. So far I've been charging one battery at a time. Can I hook the charger negative to the negative of one battery and the positive to the positive of the other battery. My charger didn't act right when I tried this so I didn't continue.

You need two separate chargers or one charger with two separate circuits. Otherwise you're mixing a Series with a Parallel which means Dead Short.

With a single 12V charger you can continue to charge the way you had been (one battery at a time). You cannot charge both at once with a single charger. There are a number of dual battery chargers available (Bass Pro Shops, Cabela's, etc) that can be mounted on board for this purpose. They are fully automatic and can be left on indefinitely to maintain batteries during long periods of storage.

Re: 12/24 battery charging

I have (2) batteries wired in series under my bow , just for the 24 volt trolling motor. What I did was looked on ebay and found a used 24 volt battery charger( was used for a electric wheelchair) it is 10 amp charger with a 12 hr timer and it is auto regulating. $35 not bad, I then wired a jack, the same as on the trolling motor to the charger. So when I get home from fishing I just plug in the charger the same place I plug in the trolling motor and charge it up. Works great and very easy now.

good luck
