Hello everyone--I'm new to the forum. I know NOTHING about boat repair. This boat belonged to my dad, so I want to keep it. It's at the family beach place, and I've been told to fix it or get rid of it. Soo...can it be repaired. It got banged up pretty good on one side, and is missing a section of gunnel. Here's my assessment:

1. Needs a new drain plug and oar lock. Easily found at a marine store I'm assuming.

2. Dents need to be banged out. Block of wood and rubber mallet--no problem.

3. Needs a new piece of gunnel, and anchor hook on bow. Where do I find those parts? H.S. metal shop will weld on.

4. Needs a new piece of wood in the stern/transom--not too hard to replace.

5. Styrofoam under bench seats can be removed (right?)

6. Repaint boat.

So, based on my assessment, I'd say, keep the boat, fix it and get many more years of enjoyment out of it. Am I missing something? Is it going to be harder than I think to fix those dents and replace the gunneling? Any tips/advice would be appreciated--BP

Sounds like you got a plan. I have one just like it. It runs just fine with a 9.9 hanging on the back. If you hang an engine on it you might want to beef up the transom a tad.

If I was to own that boat would put a total cost sheet togeather , moter etc to get it to water.Don,t forget your time.... than go to ebay auctions and see what I could get for that money.I think ebay might win.

There are the family memories that go with the boat, you can't buy them. Good luck

your hardest part will be finding the gunnel. you could get alum. fabrication shop to make you a modified U channel for a replacement. look ike you have some popped rivets on the middle seat. you may never get all the dents out. but is could still be a servicable boat. it will be a project of love. take it home, work on it, i would not get rid of the foam, just resecure it. clean it up paint it up. and show the ones that say get rid of it what it can be.

I have one just about like that. The man that rebuilt mine put new wooden seats and astro turf in it. Not bad. I also got my Dad's old outboard and kept it for sentamental value. It is a 6hp and pushes the boat okay.
