12 footer + force L-drive

I just found this forum late last evening, and from reading through the posts, he seems to have experienced Force L-Drives and have some knowledge of them. <br />I have a 1991 MaXum 21 ft with a 120 HP Force L-drive<br />as I was going over the boat one last time before hauling it to the<br />water, I discovered a broken U-bolt. This bolt is located (standing<br />aft of the boat, looking toward the bow) on the port side of the motor<br />around the bushing where the outdrive connects to the motor.<br />From what I can see from the manual, it for the mostpart is enclosed in<br />the cast part of the case that extends down<br />and does not seem to hold the pivot. <br />If you have the Service Manual, "FORCE 85/125 L-Drives 89 and newer, you can find a pic on page 5-C11 <br />Thanx

I obviously don't have the same manual.The only one I have with your drive is the Clymer 4-150HP including ldrrives 84-96.<br /><br />But from your description, the Ubolt is the pivot pin clamp,and secures it to the steering yolk. It is essential,or the pin could back-out under operation.Loosing that pivot pin while underway can do serious damage.The pin has a flat on the back end,but can still work loose.<br />The good news is,you might be able to find a replacement at a local hardware store.Opt for stainless or brass if they have it.<br />The hard part is getting to it.<br />That is, if this is the Ubolt you meant.<br />The only other Ubolts i see are on the drive shaft itself, in the universal joint.<br />This will be inside the rubber bellows.<br />If this is it, the entire joint must be removed and new u-joint bearings installed.<br />I hope it's not the latter.
