I just became the owner of this 12 HP Scott Atwater motor. Estate sale find. Is there enough information on the tag to tell what year it is? So far all I know is it looks mostly untouched under the hood, it pulls over with a solid thump from each cylinder, it has bright white spark with an audible snap at the plugs. I do not have a tank or hose yet. Now the questions I am hoping you all can help with:
What year is the motor?
Is the fitting for the fuel line common, and where can I locate one?
As you can see in the picture, there is a small crack in the casing just above the lower gear case. How much trouble am I in here?
Is this a MIG weld fix or a JB weld fix?
When things warm up a little more I will start going through the fuel system to see what condition the carburetor and filter are in. Along with checking the fuel lines to see what needs replacing. Put some fresh gear oil in it. Oh, and get all the fishing line from around the prop shaft.
Any other "must do's" before attempting a start?
