I have a 12 hp Scott, half of the ID tag is rubbed off, only the stamping 3543 remains. Based on a very old post with pictures of a A3FB-xxxx and there being so few 12 hp models, I am concluding this is a 1960 vintage. Is there any way for me to validate if that is correct?
I am also wondering on fuel mix. Would this be a 16:1, 24:1, 32:1? With modern 2 cycle oils are there issues in running with higher ratio fuel : oil?
On the upside, I have cleaned the carb and it appears to be in shape to run. I inspected the lower unit and it looks, shifts well, gave it fresh lube. I examined the water pump impeller and it is pliable, no cracks and appears to be serviceable. Lubed it with silicone paste and reassembled.
Disassembled the fuel pump, bowl, body, screen all seem in good shape. Waiting for a repair kit to arrive. The diaphragm was hard as a rock. Fitting new fuel lines as original were very brittle.
The engine thumps when pulled over and has good spark. With a bit of luck and a new fuel pump diaphragm, it should be running again soon.
