Re: 12 to 24v Trolling Motor
I'm uprgading from a 40lb 12v Minn Kota to an 80lb 24v Minn Kota this winter. I think the new bracket will fit the old bolt pattern on the bow. But I need to reposition the existing battery tray and add a second one. I've never worked on fiberglass before. Is this as simple as drill and screw?
It's not so much the "drill and screw" as it is knowing what is behind what you are drilling into. Batteries are heavy. They need to be held down suffiently.
If you are drilling into an open area, you need to back that screw up with something. A bolt and washer would be preffered. If you go into a blind area, you also need to back the screw up. There are many options for fasteners into blind areas.
By all means SEAL any holes you create or vacate. I recommend you use 3M 5200 for that purpose. It is available at HD, ACE and Lowe's.
