12' V bottom and 40 hp evinrude vro

I am thinking about buying a 12' V bottom and 40 hp Evinrude VRO outboard. However it has not been ran for about 10 years should it still run or should I run the other way. I really don't know anything about boats but I think this is a good price.

Chances are that motor will need some sort maintenance or repair. You could get burned buying a used outboard w/o knowing what to look for. Ask me how I know. :facepalm:

I have to wonder if a 40 isn't about double the rating on that 12.

Find out what the max hp rating on the boat is before you buy it.
