Hi Folks,

First let me say this is a great forum. While using a screwdriver to replace the throttle cable on my Tracker last week, I noticed a small spark. So for the heck of it, we checked to see if the hull was grounded and we were amazed to see that the hull is at +12 vdc!!!! Is this normal, or do we have a problem in the wiring?

Thanks in advance

what you have is something that does not have a good "return wire" and electricity is pretty cool... it will find a way back to ground... regardless of if you want it to go that way or not.

The best thing to do is keep that voltage meter on, and slowly remove fuses until it goes back to 0VDC. That will be the problem circuit... plug the fuse back in, and then start tracing individual wires until you find the problem.

If you check from the + post of the battery to the hull you will read 12V. This is normal as the - post of the battery is connected to the motor and the motor is bolted to the hull. I don't understand you getting a spark unless it was just static electricity.

I agree, but the meters NEG lead was on the batterys NEG post and the meters POS lead was held to the hull.

check from negetive side of the battery to the hull with a meter if it shows +12 volts then its what Flargin said
