I am installing 2 12v batteries to run a 24 volt tolling motor in my 18 foot Celebrity. I will also have a 12v starting battery. The trolling batteries are not wired to anything else at this time. My question is, has any one come up with an isolation system to charge all of these batteries while the engine is running? I have seen 1 voltage switch in the Cabella'a catalog for 170 dollars. Has anyone used this and if so, how are the grounds wired to prevent a common ground situation? And has anybody come up with a cheaper method to do this?

Isolators are available to do what you want to do. The question is, how big is the charging system on your engine? Charging three batteries from a small capacity charging system is not practical as you would have to run wide open for hours to top of the trolling batteries. Spend half the money on a quality on-board charger and plug in at the dock.
