12 volt cranking and deep cycle bats

When I purchased my boat it had a deep cycle battery for cranking. Is that ok or should I change it out for a regular cranking battery?

Use a cranking battery for starting and a deep cycle for running lights/electronics/stereos, etc. Another option would be a dual purpose battery which combines the two.

It's probably fine, my friends boat I bought has a deep cycle for cranking. I heard no complaints from them.

I am going to run a couple DP (dual purpose) batteries when I swap them in.

I was thinking a cranking battery would do a better job at spinning over the outbaord. I have a 1980 115 Merc "TOP".

I use a deep cycle battery to crank a 7.4L without a problem.

I use a deep cycle to crank a 200HP outboard, no problem.
