12 volts to coil +side/is that right

470/170hp mercuriser<br />burning up points<br />9 times out<br />people telling me that it could be the resistor wire.<br />one person said i should have 9 volts going to the coil+ side.<br />i have 12 volts to coil+ side.<br />is it the resistor wire or some thing else

12 volts while running is too much. It should be around 9 to 9.5 volts. You should check the resistor wire.
