120 evinrude reverse grind? HELP

When engage in reverse it wants to grind,didn,t try after that.Happen all sudden,any idea what the problem could be and how expensive? :(

Don't shift it so slowly. Make a fast and deliberate pull (or push also) on the lever to get it into gear without allowing it to grind. That doesn't mean to fully pull it but enough to get it fully into gear before applying it further into the throttle.<br /><br />If it continues to have a grind it may have other problems.

My '91 200hp evinrude does the same thing. Not sure why.It goes into gear,just have to pull it alittle more.The best way is not to try to ease it into reverse.Just pull your button release and pull it back quickly.(less grinding)Slower you pull the more it grinds.I don't know why it does it but it's not causing a serious problem yet.<br /><br />Tom
