I have a 1994 Force 120 with that the previous owner ran with out a thrust washer which wore off the lip on the lower unit that seals around the prop. Therefore the exhaust exits in front of the prop which causes cavitation and I don't go anywhere. The serial # on my motor is 0E041429. I found a lower unit with # 1208F91A. Could I use this lower unit with my gears installed in it. I think my lower unit is a type D from what I have found out. Any advice or info about where I might find this info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Jim.

I had to replace my exhaust sleeve last year on my 96, 120 force. It only cost about 250.00$ Cheaper than a lower unit housing. I have also been told you don?t want to mess with gears in the lower unit unless you really know what you?re doing.

A really good welder can build-up the lower unit again --probably for less money than buying another one. He would fabricate some plate or sheet aluminum into a ring and weld it back onto the gearcase. Relatively simple repair unless it interferes with the internal threads if your lower unit has them. You need to tell him how much to extend the gearcase. If you give him the lower unit with prop and the thrust washer installed, he will be able to estimate.

But, you need to do your homework and find the best welder in the area AND be willing to pay for his skill. This is a case where you get what you pay for. (even though it is improper grammar)
