120 HP Outboard Choke Question

Got a 1991 120hp Outboard Force, problem is the choke seems to be sticking. I need to take the cover off and work the choke by hand a few times before attempting to start. After working it by hand, seems to choke just fine. When I start the engine, seems like there is a small amount of fuel coming out of the carbs. Anyone have this problem, or know of a solution?

If you "overchoked", yes there will be overflowing fuel from the carbs. When starting, choke only until the engine "coughs" and then re-start without choking. Even then there will be a slight overflow of fuel depending how long it took for the engine to cough. As for the stickiness, try greasing the joints of the mechanisms otherwise it could be the choke solenoid needing to be replaced.

First make certain that the choke levers are not binding on the carb casting. If they are binding, bend them out slightly with a needle nose pliers. Then lubricate the choke shafts withWD 40.

Worst case: If there is a little corrosion binding the shafts, remove the butterflies and pull the shafts out of the casting. Then dress the hole with some 400 grit paper rolled into a tube. Do not sand the shafts if you can help it. They are chrome plated brass with a very thin plating.

Ok, little update here. I just replaced the solenoid and plunger for the choke, and it is still sticking. It seems like it want to pull the lever in, but something is stopping it, maybe theres too much tension somewhere?
