I noticed you said you set the timing at 6 instead of 8. I'm guessing you mean idle timing and thats fine if it idles there but dont forget to check timing at WOT (total).

Good luck!

clanton- thanx, cold weather has spine plate acting up. atleast i can assume the inner parts are 88, along with some outer, id say its pretty far off from the 92 i bought it as. will buy a 88 parts manual to add to my collection.

dhadley, just set the idle, although everything was supposed to be set the last time it was in the shop. atleast i paid for it, but since then found out they didnt even have a test tank . at this point dont even know. ihave been to 4 omc shops here and have not found one with a test tank. will probably buy myself a test prop next. again i probably have a different l-unit. i know its a 15 spline v6 housing. have 3 props 17, 19 & 21 pitch. 19 is on there now which is about common for the other trophys ive seen, although they are running mercs & force. the new 1802 w 125 get a 12 3/4 X 21. i dont really know what the difference would be between that and a 14 1/4 X 21 in rpm with the bigger diameter. all i can really say is that i have alot time in this thing but am thinking of cutting my loses. its sad to have a frankinstein motor. will have to price test prop this week. thanx guys this site is great as well as everyone that responds.

hooty i was just there seen it on one of the other thread so i clicked it. thanx for adding it to my thread what a great site, wont need to buy another parts manual now or have to bug the local parts just for price info. the thing is the part#s im looking for come up no longer available instead of identifying what it goes to. at this point i dont know if you can put a looper motor on top of another mid section. dhadley might know. think clanton got it right on with the 88 model year. i think i stopped at 89/90. still working on it slowly.
