I was given (yes given for free!) a 1997 rinker rocket with a sport jet inboard. The owners burned a couple starters then took it to a dealer. Dealer found water in one of the cylinders and beleived the block was cracked.

I am having trouble finding this motor and correct year. Any other mercury or force 120 2 cycle work? If the block is cracked can it be repaired? Any other motors out there I could use to get this thing moving? THanks

Even tho the engine looks the same as a Force 120, the crank is different. The splines on the bottom end is the difference. I traded a customer out for one last fall and lucked into a new factory block assembly on E Bay for $700. That's the first 120 engine I've seen on E Bay. If its just water in the cylinder, I'd look at either a blown head gasket or possibly a leaking exhaust manifold. Once you shut one of these things down, all the water drains out so it can't freeze. As for cracking for other reasons, never seen it happen before.

THey had left it out over the winter, they claim it was winterized but water leaked through cover and ran into the back. They thought maybe that cracked the block...... I dont see how, I will ask again but it sounded like the burned the starters on their first attemps of the year to run motor, He did say it started and idled then died. COuld freeze thaw damaged it to where the head gasket just blew right away? Or maybe just a coincidence? I would almost have to buy a rebuild kit if they are availible, this guy had the motor sitting in the hull without the head on for some time. Cylinder walls look terrible!!

Sorry about that, Paul.

You identified your engine as a Mercury/Force when you posted it in the outboard section. That is where it belongs.

Good luck. :)
