120hp 87 starter magnets fell out

i need to compression test a 120hp motor that i removed due to the weight upsetting the boat the trouble is the starter permenant magnets have come unglued from the metal casing they came out with the stator (makes you wonder how it has been cranking the motor slowly unless the magnetic field is pushing them back in place). any ideas of what i can use to reglue them so i can get a compression reading. im thinking 2 part epoxy?

You can get the correct epoxy kit from any BRP/OMC dealer with instructions on how to do it.

If talking about the starter motor, there are no kits from OMC/BPR, but you may use the kits for the fly-wheel magnets. However nothing but a 2-komponent Araldit epoxy. Important is to really clean out both magnets and casing before gluing. Do NOT try to use and steel-brush or 'magnetic' grinding paper on the magnets when cleaning off old glue, use sand/carbide paper.

well what a pain in the butt that was. magnets have to be alliened so the bolts miss them and they like to stick to everything. the glue seems to be working but heres the kicker it wasnt till i glued them that i wondered which way up they should have been. should the cups have been attracted or repulsed by each other. to late now to tell if i fixed it or somethinged it. 24 hours i will try to test it

There's little corners cut off of the magnets on one side and can only be seen when looking at them when on the bench and they should all go in the same direction. Good luck

couldnt wait so i hooked up some leads then got nervous so i added a solinoid and the dam thing jumped off the floor it spun so fast. now if it lasts long enoght to get the compression readings i will be happy

Let us know what kind of spark you have. Should jump a 7/16" open air gap on a spark tester.

Ohhhhh. Yeah, I was confused as it's usually the magnets in the flywheel. Thanks for the come back.
