I am trying to install my new control cables to my 1990 Morse single lever control and 125 Force outboard. Throttle cable works fine , however , I can not seem to get the shifter cable to operate in forward and reverse. If I set it to work properly in forward , it will not work for reverse. Same problem when I can get it to work in reverse, it will not operate in forward. It seems the cable does not allow enough throw in both directions. I have Teleflex cable part # CCX63315 HELP !

I think you will find inside your single lever controller that you have a choice of holes to put he cable into ..you need to select the outer of the two holes to give you more travel.

if you have it on the outer hole in the shifter box then you need to move the piviot at the other end ...if you had this working before and are just changing the cables you should have no problem....

Re: 125 Force control cable problems..

Thank You again , but , as I previously stated , I have tried every combination of holes and adjustments at each end of the cable to no avail. I may not be a marine mechanic , but I have been a mechanic my whole life wether it be jet fighters , automobiles, trucks ,high speed packaging , and hydraulics/pneudraulics.I am wondering if I have the wrong cable, or if I need to replace the end at the engine for this cable to work. I replaced the cables on my previous boat and encountered no problems.

Put the cable ends back where they were.
Unhook the cables at the motor. Then standing at the stbd side.Shift the shift mech into forward all the while turning the prop with your foot. Then find reverse.Same moving the prop with the foot.
Then find neutral.Making sure the prop turns in both directions.
The cables.Adjust the shift cable end till it matches the connector. The throttle should have a little tension when you hook it back up.
Try to shift with the shifter.Turning with the foot.
That not working. The the shift linkage up under the carbs might need to be tightened.
The connector at the front of the lower unit make sure it's right and not came loose.

Re: 125 Force control cable problems..

UPDATE : I figured out what the problem was . I had originally removed the control and cables this past April to measure and order new cables. I also had quite a bit of restoration to do to my boat . When I installed the cables to the control unit this past Sunday, I had reversed the block that they are clamped into  , which positioned the cables WAYYY to far forward. It really did look like it was correct the way I had it at first. Then I looked at the clamping block today, and figured that was the only link that I had not reconsidered.... All of a sudden the lightbulb lit up ! The control works perfectly now with only a few minor adjustments made at each end of the cables. WHEW!!!! This really had me scratching my head ! :D
Hopefully this misadventure will help someone in the future. ;)
Thank You all again ,for all of the replies .
