i have this 125 HP force and i was just wondering how the carbs work, i got it to start if i put gas straight into the carb opening but not if i am just trying to turn it over. i was wondering what else to look for because these dont have your typical accel pumps and stuff. so i was wondering how the gas gets to the carb intake from the bowl. there is still a new start like i said. but this is what has been done. whole new electric system. spark on all cylinders. and 125 PSI accross the board. i feel i am almost there some help is apprecuiated.

The fuel pump creates fuel flow from the compression on your motor. Maybe replace the diaphram and the main gasket. Is the primer bulb getting hard? Try disconnecting the fuel hose going to the carb from the fuel pump. Pump the primer and see if fuel is getting to the carb. Another possibility is the needle valves in the carb are stuck closed. You can try removing one of the floats and see if there is gas in the bowl

gas gets to the bowl, your saying the main gasket that seals the carb to the block?

The main gasket I mentioned is for the fuel pump. The kit comes with the main gasket and the diaphram. Kit costs 10 bucks at NAPA part number 18-7806

Needle valves in the carb are stuck closed or are clogged up. Buy a carb kit and make sure you get the needle to seat right. I fixed that same problem a short time ago. When I got my carb kit the needle was not quite machined well enough and I had to knock the rough edges off so the needle moved freely and rebuilt the carb for the second time. Take heed and make sure it is working correctly before you put it back on the boat. I like to use an air pump for a fish tank to blow into where the fuel line hooks up at the carb. Then you cab hear when it is open and when it is closed. Hope that helps! Eurolaura is a good person to listen to, he helped me on a few problems...Thanks

well i have the carbs here next to me now, and i blew every single passage i could find with carb cleaner. i turned the boat over and the pump pumps lots of fuel. from what i cant ell after spraying it int here is that the passages are clean and free. i know i have spark, i know i have compression, and i am almost 99% sure that i have fuel, but why wont it turn?

You need to make sure the needle and seat match up properly. I am 99% sure this is your problem.

I do not have a pic off hand. If you take off the carb bowl and remove the float by removing the pin holding it in the carb. Take a pic I will circle where it is. The float opens and closes the needle. Email me the pic @ rcmonster@hotmail.com.

Boater Dude, please buy a manual for your motor.
These things are complex pieces of machinery, even if they are low tech. Things have to be set just right or it won't run properly, or for long. A manual will explain exactly how everything works, how to test and verify, safety issues, things to watch for and to check, and how to do things such as the proper way to clean/rebuild a carb, and how to prevent a fire !! It appears that a manual could have saved you countless hours in the last month or so.

If you can't afford a manual, get one from the library.

ok, i thought i had thios carb thing figured out but i dont. i primed the thing and the ball got hard. i started trying to start it but it wont start. i took a spray bottle put some gas and oil into it and then sparyed it into the carbs. started right up. revved real high then i shut it off. why is it doing this? why dont the carbs work? what am i missing? i cleaned the carbs through adn through but the engine just wont suck the gas from them. what gives?

Buy a carb rebuild kit and it should come with a paper that tells you what the measurements are for the float to open and close the needle. I had this exact problem with 2 outboards and fixed them. I am pretty sure this is the problem.

Re: 125 HP force carbs, how do they work?

sounds like the float setting is wrong .... the float is shutting down flow before the bowl fills

Dude,

I just rebuilt the carbs on my 1984 - 125. To set the floats you need to remove the carbs from the motor, remove the bowl and with the carb turned upside down, the needle will be closed, there should be 1/2 an inch from the bottom of the float to the bowl gasket at the point furthest from the hinge. Then turn the carb rightside up, the float will be in the down position, there should be 7/8 of an inch gap between the same two points.

I have a diagram that shows this, I'll try and scan it tonight and post it.

BTW, the kits I ordered had the wrong needle valves. Mine runs really good but they leak fuel when I tilt the motor forward. I have the correct valves on order.

Jeff
