I am changing a blown powerhead on a 2001 125 Merc I-4 for a friend. The motor was ran with no oil, the resovoir went empty and no alarm sounded. I just checked it out and the horn appears to be bad, it just makes a squeak when I ground the temp sensor wire. My question concerns the module that monitors the oil level and rotation of the pump shaft. Does this module have the ability to shut down the engine on fatally low oil level? Does it just make the horn blow?

Unlike the bigger V6 engines, these engines don't have a warning module for the oil level or even the pump rotation. When the oil level falls to the point where the switch is closed, the alarm sounds but nothing else will happen.

Chris.............
