Hey guys asked the evinrude guys figure I'de ask you guys. I am looking at a four winns 170 horizon with a 96 evinrude 115 on it, I have a 94 merc 125 currently. I may have the option of swapping the motors. Is there a big performance difference, I have heard both way, may lose 3mph or may even perform better with 115. I know this is kind of vague I am still waiting for the vin on the evinrude so I know if it is a 60 or 90 degree model. Any feedback appreciated, thanks

Re: 125 merc vs evinrude 115

That should be the 60? model 115 and it will have more low end torque due to block design and gearcase ratio. It also uses the smaller "batwing" gearcase thus making it a 21" motor and less drag per engineers. I myself would go with the Johnrude as it will be better on fuel at midrage and pulling.
