Now will putting the telltale in harm or do anything to engine as far as power loss or anything?

Nope won't make a difference in how the motor runs and you won't see a loss in power or harm the motor. This is just to visually show you that the impeller is pumping water up to the thermostat.

Of course, if you use a 1 inch hose on the Telltale you might have problems!
Though it would be kind of hard to get something that big on there.

well I changed all parts that were not in good shape and I also installed a telltale now does the fitting coming out of the motor have to be stainless or something or like a brass one from hardware store is ok.I put brass one and tried it out and thats amazing and my pump was on it's way out for a while because slot of water comes out of the two little holes.thanks for all

Actually you don't need a fitting at the end of the telltale, where it comes out of the case that is. I drilled my hole slightly smaller than the hose and poked it through. Put some silicone around it to help keep it place and you good to go.

Also, I ran mine out the left side of the motor. I didn't want to take a chance of the hose developing a leak and spraying the coils, possible shorting them out.

But, if you want to use a fitting down there, brass works fine.
