Hi, am new to site and keen to learn as much as possible about 1250 Kiekhaefer outboard I have bought, motor is in exceptional condition but needs replacement engine wiring harness, have attached pics of motor and boat, love the motor already as it suits the vintage of the boat ('50s-'60s timber hull) have nearly completed fitting out and close to starting on motor. What is the best advise on preparing motor prior to starting? Has not been used for approx. 8 yrs with very little use according to previous owner. Am assuming motor is a 1968 - '69 ? serial no.2318405. Will this motor perform well enough if running correctly, to move this size boat (23'timber hull heavy boat) ?
Any input would be greatly appreciated
Steve

Re: 1250 kiekhaefer

that is one good looking motor!
and the boat's not too bad either LOL
have you read this link?
http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=158086
l'm sure it will move your boat but it probably won't set any speed records,
nuthin' wrong with just cruising around watching the 'scenery'

Thanks for the link, not into setting speed records, "just cruisin" be nice to see it on the plane but not sure if that is possible? Have an old guy who is astounded by engine condition, he set race records in the '60s -'70s and knows his old Merc's, reckons it most likely will get on the plane

Re: 1250 kiekhaefer

Bob;

s/n comes up as:

125 1250 6-cyl 2314956 2536209 1968 USA

From here:

http://www.marinshopen.se/Motorer/O...cury2taktR66cyl80150hp/tabid/489/Default.aspx
It is a model:

1125108 MERCURY 1968 125

Parts listing:

http://www.crowleymarine.com/mercury-outboard/441.cfm

Is there a reason you cannot use the 84-69236A1 as it is described elsewhere as applicable to:

UNITED STATES 4121434 AND BELOW AUSTRALIA 8028039 AND BELOW CANADA 7048782 AND BELOW

Gerry

Thanks for your input, should have added am in Australia and postage costs quoted from all USA suppliers are way too high, not worth paying the additional when there is probably one available locally

Re: 1250 kiekhaefer

l did wonder about the balmoral thing but apparently they're everywhere LOL
you could also ask the question here
http://board.net.au/yabbse/index.php?PHPSESSID=18c2dad8880feb7f90c2c900cc998199&

local site for older boats and donks

however it doesn't get much traffic...buggerall actually.. but l think there's a couple of blokes from NSW there who MAY be able to point you towards one
Mercman l think? is one,
anyway, they'll drool over that donk

Re: 1250 kiekhaefer

If you have the plug for your existing harness and it is in decent shape, why not just rebuild it with new wiring?
