Is there anyway someone could take a picture of your shift and throttle linkage at motor hookups. I am having a heck of a time figureing them out to hookup. The shift I think I have but throttle no idea.
Thanks.
Also I have power trim unit to install. question. can I lock motor down without installing this unit old fashion way with bar thru the holes or must you always use power option hooked up to engine?
Thanks

When the weather stops sucking I'll hook you up with a pick of my linkage. And yes I am envious that you are putting power t/t on... :)

Re: 1250 linkage hookup help

Glasparman, Those motors had either a manual lockdown or power trim and tilt. You did not need to "lock them down" if you had PT&T, since the hydraulic unit did that itself. If the motor was a non PT&T model, there was a bar with a hook which rode on a cam attached to the shift shaft. In reverse and neutral, the hook grabbed the tilt pin. In forward, the hook was not attached.

Re: 1250 linkage hookup help

Thanks for picture Jason, Got it hooked up good now!!
Chris, I have Power tilt trim so it has hydrualic shocks. I have been told conflicting information. My question is I have my pin (all versions of motor have tilt pin) It has my motor leval with boat. Do I have to hook up trim to power unit or will boat work without hooking up.
I have been told from Absolutely you can use it with just the tilt pin in and only reverse will lightly bounce motor if gingerly applied. to the other extreme of NO YOU CAN USE YOUR BOAT until power trim is installed correctly and bled.
very confusing. I would think you could use it as the shocks only hold motor down in reverse if you had a reverse lock.

Re: 1250 linkage hookup help

Glasparman, You should set the tilt pin in the lowest hole. You do not have to use it at all, but if you trim all the way down, the motor could contact your transom, and mark (really ding or chew) it up. Also, unless your hole shot is really poor, the lowest hole is a good trim limit. The trim pin is not used to hold the motor down during reverse. The PT&T does that. if the motor pops up, check the pressure release knob on the pump. It needs to be turned all the way (left???). If you need to bleed the system, you need a manual to give the procedure. it is not self-bleeding, and not straightforward. Also, you should not have a reverse lock mechanism on that motor.

Re: 1250 linkage hookup help

Chris, I am sorry I think I am being confusing. I would like to NOT use my Powertilt trim unit at all if possible. It is going to be a pain to fabricate a place to install it. I would just liket to use tilt pin for a fixed trim (like generic motors with no power tilt trim) I know it should be possible as tilt pin will work fine for forward motion of boat. Where I am concerned is I will not have a reverse lock and dont want to pop motor high in air when putting in reverse. I was purposing leaving trim shock on as they would maybe hold it some .

Heck, if you don't want power trim, why don't you find some like, say me for example, to swap assemblies. I have been wanting power t/t forever...

I am curious, since these motors did not come original with power t/t, did someone swap the goods onto your motor? Is it original or some sort of after market deal?

Re: 1250 linkage hookup help

Glassparman, If you have access to a OB junk yard, you could buy the original tilt lock parts. Specifically, there is a plastic cam that is installed on the lowerunit's shift shaft, a shaft with a hook that fits on the transom clamp, a rod that rides on the plastic cam and pushes the hook to grab the tilt pin and a spring.
