Hi all, i know theres some very knowledgable people here so im askin for help. Just bought an 89 vip fish &ski with 125hp merc. Force outboard and my tilt trim is slowly dropping. With full fluid obviously it works better but its weeping. Out by one of the 4. Mounting bolts on the very bottom of the unit. Reading other posts i thought it would be the o- rings but found that bolt also feels like its stripped out. Everything seems to operate fine it just looses pressure with fluid. I am an industrial mech. And would like to fix it myself (depending on the issue) but iv seen some of the prints of the guts on these units and would really like the best route from someone with experience before i cause myself more problems than i started with. If someone could tell me thee best route to take to troubleshoot ( step by step if possible) and where i should order any parts. I will wait to tear into it until i get some quality info. Thanks

bleed down is check valve. lots of posts in the history files. The leaking of oil around reservoir base is typically a warped reservoir. You need to pull pump and make sure reservoir base is still round. If it is then clean up with lacquer thinner and then use one of those epoxy based thread repair kits. The screws do not need much torque. The oring needs to make a very good seal based on shape and the screws just keep it from blowing out under pressure.

Thank you for all your help i will try to look hrough the files for check valve. If i remove those 4 bottom bolts i can see the bottom of the reservoir. Correct? And do you know where i might find some good prints of this unit. Thanks again.
